HTMA Conference 2006: A Forum for Change

The event was held on Wednesday, 31st May 2006 between 9AM and 4:30PM at The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, Westminster, London, UK.
The conference focused on four critical issues –

Image, People, Performance and Safety

and asked the big questions:

” What are the physical and mental barriers that still need to be overcome to ensure the improvement of each of these critical areas in the long term? And how can we tap into this best practice, knowledge and experience so that the vast opportunities offered by our industry are opened up to all?”

Under the theme “Forum for Change” leaders participated in the summit were asked to confront these issues and to identify real opportunities together.

Some of the questions speakers and tables have debated include:
  • How do we resolve congestion and safety issues?
  • How can the industry help and improve driver behavious?
  • How rational are current Performance Indicators?
  • How can we improve our image?
  • How much is the image of the industry affected by the adequacy of the network?
  • Should maintenance be seen (by everyday commuters) at all?
  • What people issues most need to be addressed-training, image or behaviour?
