Valerie Letheren – Cabinet Member for Transport, Bucks
Val Letheren is the Cabinet Member for Transport at Buckinghamshire County Council, a position she has held since 2005. Val is responsible for advising the Council’s Cabinet on transport strategy, policy and delivery and was the political lead in the outsourcing of both client transport and all other transport services over the last couple of years at Buckinghamshire County Council.
She has previously held positions as chairman of the Members Policy Group on Strategic Planning at Conference for the South East and chairman of Planning at Wycombe District Council during her time as a District Councillor. Val was Cabinet Member for Children’s Social Care (2004) and Spokesperson for Planning & Transport at Buckinghamshire County Council.
Val has considerable experience in transport and land use planning, gained over a period of 20 years in local government. Val has been able to influence transport strategy, policy and delivery within a diverse and largely rural local authority area. Val is also a regular chairman at meetings, where she aims to help local people and stakeholders understand transport issues.
Val is a member of various Boards including Aylesbury Vale Advantage and Milton Keynes South Midlands Transport Board and until recently a Member of the Regional Transport Board, which has now ceased operation.
Val is a Chartered Physiotherapist and until recently ran her own private practice until retiring last year.
