Alan Capell has been the Chair of the HTMA’s Sustainability Working Group since its inception in November 2006. The group is working to reduce the impact our industry has on the environment, to increase the resilience of the highway network to cope with the anticipated impacts of climate change and to raise awareness, share knowledge and best practice amongst HTMA members and with the wider highway maintenance industry. The group is focusing on 4 key themes in 2009
Initiatives undertaken to date include the launch of the Greener Driving booklet, production of an HTMA Sustainability Charter and the development of a web based knowledge centre containing guidance, case studies, a decision framework tool and advice. Alan has worked for over 30 years in Local Government, mainly in highway management, maintenance and procurement. Since 2004 he has worked for Halcrow as Market Sector Director for Local Government, overseeing the development of the partnerships with local authorities and other public sector organisations across the UK and Europe. |
